GOYA |
| |
GOYA at Saints Constatntine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church meets at least once a month. Their primary focus is to "Bring Glory to God" in all of their activities which include visiting shut-ins, fundraising, Christmas caroling, attending and reading during Church services, overnight retreats, community service, etc.
Each year they sponsor "Youth Sunday" in November. On this day the GOYA takes the place of the Parish Council by greeting people at the Narthex, ushering, sponsoring the fellowship hour, and even delivering short sermonettes on various topics given to them by Father Phillips.
This year, their main fundraiser was to sponsor a Community Talent Showcase and Lenten Lunch. Many groups of the Church particiapted - even the Parish Council- displaying their various talents. Great fun was had by all and $2,500 was raised. They even sold videos of the show.
GOYA is made up of 7th to 12th graders and their officers are as follows:
Anthony Fowler - President
John Vassilakis - 1st Vice President
Jessica Cometa - 2nd Vice President
Alexis Ranglas - Corresponding Secretary
Angie Petinos - Recording Secretary
William Kafoure - Treasurer |

YAL |
| |
YAL includes the young adult population of the church who are generally between the ages of 18 and 35.
The mission of YAL is to lead all persons to the fullness of the Faith and likeness of God. Sustaining the young adult population in the Orthodox Church is important in many ways. Growing up in today's society can face us with many obstacles throughout our life. YAL provides the support and guidance to get through these conflicts, as well as the nourishment to feel apart of the community. YAL allows young adults to increase their interaction with their peers who have the same standards and Orthodox values. We must remember that the young adults are the future of our faith.
What does YAL do?
Typically, the YAL of Sts. Constantine & Helen will host an activity at least once a month. These activities include: spiritual retreats, dinners, outdoor activities, movie nights, volunteering, charitable works and much more. YAL is much more than a social club! YAL is based on the following four characteristics: Worship (Liturgia), Fellowship (Koinonia), Service (Daikonia), and Witness (Martyria).
If you would like more information on the YAL of Sts. Constantine & Helen, check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stconstantineandhelenyal/ or contact Nicole Stacy at nstacy@san.rr.com or (619) 602-8315. |
