Welcome to Academy Preschool located in San Diego’s North County at Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California. The Academy is dedicated to providing 2.5 - 5 year olds a welcoming nurturing environment through Full or Half Day programs. We encourage each child to grow at his or her own pace and welcome parental participation.  We have an active Parents Association (PA).

Our low student-to-teacher ratio affords individualized attention to promote a love of learning in a secure environment.

Our curriculum promotes emotional, cognitive, and physical growth through developmentally appropriate activities. We provide a natural transition from the home to the outside world. We stimulate each child’s curiosity through appealing to the senses, instilling the confidence to attempt challenges and awakening a lifetime love of learning.

    • Variety of subjects and centers (Language Arts, Math, Science, Sensory, Dramatic Play) providing opportunities for structure and choice activities
    • Flexibility in the schedule and activities for self-paced learning
    • Rich environment encouraging creativity, self-discovery and socialization opportunities for learning to relate in a positive way



The Academy offers half and full day programs Monday through Friday for 2.5 - 5 year olds who are potty trained. 

Morning Session - 8:30 am – 12:00 pm

Afternoon Session -1:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Full Day Session - 8:30am - 4:30 pm

Enrichment - 6:30-8:30 am, 4:30-6:00pm

Circle Time, Calendar, Music and Movement, Theme Introduction, Math, Science, Language Arts, Cooking, Art, Dramatic Play, Writing, Phonics, Outside Play and Gardening

Children’s Garden

We have a beautiful playground garden for your children, complete with trees and flowers.  The playground area is equipped with “Kid Cushion” 2 1/2” rubber tiles to protect your child should he or she fall.  These tiles meet CPSC & IPEMA standards.  A play scape, water and sand activities and balance blocks all add to the fun your children will have in their garden.  Our full protocol for safety can be found in in our handbook.


2014-2015 School Year Tuition Rates are based on a minimum enrollment in the Ten (10) Month School Year August 2014 - June 2015. A full year 12 month enrollment from September 2014-September 2015 and summer programs are also available.

Our preschool staff is highly qualified with degrees and specializations in early childhood education.  They are dedicated to life-long learning through enrolling in classes and workshops.  Most importantly, they love children and want to make a difference in their lives. 

Mrs. Lia Blomgren, Director and Teacher

Mrs. Evangelia “Lia” Blomgren is originally from Michigan where she graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Early Childhood. Before moving to California in 2005, Mrs. Blomgren taught at the Pre-Kindergarten level, First Grade, and worked for Head Start. Since moving to California, she focused her attention working for an Early Child Development Center, a part of the San Diego Unified School District; at Kids Clubs; and for a Pediatric Day Care to broaden her experiences. Mrs. Blomgren is always expanding her education and has specialized training in a holistic way to introduce children to the Christian values with Montesorrian methods. Mrs. Blomgren is excited to lead the Academy as the Director and to teach it is her dream job. Mrs. Blomgren’s philosophy and glue is that learning is a life-long process. While not working, Mrs. Blomgren enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.


Mrs. Katerina Belesi, Assistant Teacher

Aikaterini “Katerina” Belesi was born in Greece, studied at the University of Patras earning a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. Upon completing her undergraduate Katerina continued at the Department of Theatre Studies studying Ancient Greek Theatre Studies as they relate to art and innovative practices in teaching. Katerina brings the philosophy as a science which opens avenues of knowledge and as well as drama that offer the flexibility of human thinking, critical perspective, and exploration into her teaching and in dramatic play. Since she was a child she has always been excited about teaching and sharing her passion for learning.  Katerina loves children because as she says “they offer unique perspectives on life.”
