Vesperal Liturgy of Christmas Eve
The Vesperal Liturgy of Christmas Eve combines Vespers (evening prayer) with the Divine Liturgy in one service. It marks the Church’s transition from waiting to fulfillment, as the birth of Christ is proclaimed and celebrated sacramentally.
During the service, Old Testament readings recall God’s promises to humanity, followed by the Divine Liturgy in which the Gospel of Christ’s birth is proclaimed and Holy Communion is offered. The tone moves from quiet anticipation to reverent joy, reflecting the moment when light enters the world.
