Our Spring Project, co-chaired by Kristy Laliotis and Laure Bemis, has commenced with a collection drive of some basic items to help the homeless of San Diego County.  We ask all our parishioners to, please, help us reach our goal of providing 200 drawstring bags filled with a few significant items to help people cope with daily living needs.  Your donations may be dropped off to a Philoptochos Board member, outside the C. G. Pappas Hall, on Sundays, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.  The drive will continue through Bright Week (the week after Easter Sunday) with the final drop-off date of May 9th.  Thank you for your help with this important endeavor to support those in critical need, without permanent shelter.

Philoptochos, one of the largest women’s charitable organizations in the US, is the heart of the Greek Orthodox Church and has a major impact within our Parish, our local community, our country and the world. Philoptochos is philanthropy, fellowship and faith put into action. We strive to live the message of Saint James that faith, without good works, is dead.

This chapter, Saint Helen Philoptochosm was established in 1979 and consists of women in the Parish whose main objectives are of a charitable and philanthropic nature. Men participate as associate members.  At its founding the concept of Circles was introduced by Father Theodore Phillips. Each member is requested to join one of the three Circles. Through our three circles, various activities and programs, we provide a wide range of services.

Who we are ...

Our mission is to help the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widowed, the handicapped, the victims of disasters, and to undertake the burial of impoverished persons, and to offer assistance to anyone who may need the help of the Church through fund raising efforts.  We are also committed to preserving and protecting the Orthodox Christian Faith and helping the Church.

We are striving to increase our involvement in social/moral issues such as human trafficking, child abuse, domestic violence, homelessness, pornography, substance abuse, and the needs of aged. Of course, we continue to serve our individual Parishes first but strive to extend to our local and global communities.
