OPERATION CLASSROOM PROJECT
Operation Classroom is an ongoing project that our National and Metropolis Philoptochos Societies encourage all chapters to do if they can. Its mission is to assist and offer support and resources to students and teachers in underfunded or underserved educational settings.
During the past two years of involvement, our chapter has helped two Title 1 schools in Vista: Foothill Elementary and Rancho Minerva Middle Schools, both of which have served a high percentage of families whose incomes are below the poverty line, who are homeless, and/or who have foster children. Rancho Minerva has since closed, but we continue our partnership with Foothill Elementary School.
Having conducted a collection drive with our parishioners, our chapter has been able to donate sixty new pairs of shoes and jackets to students. Individual members of our chapter have also donated gently used and new clothes and backpacks to the elementary students. Additionally, our chapter has donated funds to purchase city bus passes so that parents may accompany their young children to and from school, to support Spring Field Day with snacks, and to buy gift cards for the purchase of clothes and shoes to help those families in need.
Thanks to a couple generous donors of our chapter membership, we have started this new school year of 2025-26 with the purchase of Spanish language books so that children may read books at home with their families for literacy enhancement. Finally, a few of our members volunteer weekly as classroom tutors at Foothill Oak, grades Kindergarten through 5 th grade. Please contact Committee Co-chairs Connie Fellios (illinichio@gmail.com; 760-468-7099), Laure Bemis (ladybemis@aol.com; 760-533-1976) and Liza Demos (lronis@aol.com; 619-254-0252) if you would like to join us with this worthy project.

Thank you for your caring support!
