About The Event
The service begins with the usual Matins prayers, followed by the reading of the twelve Gospel passages, taken from all four Gospels, in a specific order. These readings guide the faithful through Christ’s final hours, from His discourse at the Last Supper to His death and burial. After the fifth Gospel reading, the priest carries a large cross in procession around the church and places it in the center, symbolizing Christ’s crucifixion.
As the service progresses, the faithful witness the deep suffering of Christ, experiencing the weight of His sacrifice through the hymns and solemn atmosphere. The Antiphons of the Passion and other moving hymns express both the sorrow of Christ’s suffering and the faithful’s awe at His love and sacrifice.
